Editing techniques

When creating a mini brief, there are many different techniques that must be included.

One of these techniques is called Shot-reverse-shot. This is used by producers when filiming a conversation between two characters. Shot-reverse-shot is when you film one of the characters talking by using a Point of view shot or an over the shoulder shot. Then, you switch to film the other charcter, and then return to the character you began filming first. This technique is used in order for the audience to be able to see both sides of the conversation and to see both of their expressions shown after something the other person has said.
Another technique is called Match-on-action. This technique is used in order to show a persons action from one angle, and then continue to see the progression of the action at another angle.
Below is an example of match-on-action in a TV show called 'Friends'.

Another popular technique that is used in filming is called that 180 degrees rule. This technique simply states that the camera cannot cross an imaginary line. If this rule is not followed, it can look very unprofessional to the viewers.
Below is a video of a longer explanation with examples.
